Charity Experience

What is my Charity Experience?

When CA Master, in the height of Covid, conscious of the hardships many charities were going through, I undertook an endurance event christened “Source to City”, in which I started in Gloucester, at the stone marking the “Source” of the Thames, ran 13+miles to Cricklade, then cycled 11+ miles to Lechlade. Finally rowed in a single scull, from there to HMS President in the City to raise money for 5 Charities including the Sheriffs and Recorder’s fund and the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. I am delighted to say we raised over £33,000+ for these charities.

In addition, as well as running 7 Marathons, From New York, London, Beijing and even Marathon itself, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and several London Landmarks Half Marathons on behalf of City Livery Charities. In addition, I recently completed a World Record attempt on the Concept 2 Rowing Machine. Completing one million meters in just over 6 days 12 hours, and which raised a further £10k+ for a key adaptive sport charity.

Additionally, for 17+ years I produced a two-week outdoor annual production of Shakespeare. Which, with an average of 4,000 patrons a year, raised up to £7,500 a year for key local and National Charities.

I am presently a Trustee of three Charities. The main one is the National Coastwatch Institution, (“NCI”), (1159975), who work with the RNLI & Coastguard to “Assist in the protection and preservation of life at Sea and along the United Kingdom Coastline.” I am also both a Watchkeeper of the NCI and its National Treasurer.

Additionally, I am a Trustee of the Britannia Association, (1158111), which is tasked to “relieve where appropriate past and present alumni and Wardroom status members of staff of the College who are in conditions of need”.  The college being the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

Finally, I set up my own charity, GRG general relief Fund, (1193661), which I use when raising money and thus avoids paying one of the money-raising platforms their fees and maximizes the Gift Aid that can be claimed.
